The Healing of Tamanu Oil

Branching out and discovering new oils, will lead you to new discoveries about plants you have never imagined. I stumbled across Tamanu oil, when a friend and I went on a hunt for different carrier oils. The research surrounding tamanu oil astounded me.

History….

Tamanu oil comes from the Calophyllaceae tropical tree family. It’s indigenous to Melanesian countries and other tropical areas. This oil has been proven to have vulnerably and cicatrizing affects. The oil has been around for quite sometime, in the 1900s the French used it to aid in treating pain, leprosy, and was put in other skin tonics to aid in healing.

Why it works…

Because of the cicatrization properties found in the plan/oil; tamanu encourages the generation on new tissue. This makes it great for stimulating the growth of healthy skin cells and accelerate wound healing. It is also composed of calophyllolide which reduces histamine inflammation and swelling.

Popular uses…

Tamanu oil has been used to aid with wound healing, added to many beauty products, and creams. Many have used it to help with acne and acne scars, skin rashes, eczema, dermatitis, toenail fungus, stretch marks, insect bites, blisters, and even diaper rashes.  This oil has the following properties:

  • Antioxidant

  • Antimicrobial

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Deodorizing

  • Anti-itch

I recently started using Tamanu oil in my own daily moisturizer. My face is allergic to a mask, I am forced to wear at work although I bought cloth ones everyone in a while I am forced to do a procedure in the one provided at work. It makes me turn red, irritates my skin, and of course I breakout.  I have noticed a difference in the bumps on my face (they are not painful) and are decreasing everyday. This oil is another oil I want to keep on hand.

Our bodies are truly amazing. From all the research I have done, I am reminded about a children’s bible song:

  • Oh, be careful, little eyes, what you see. . . .

  • Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear. . . .

  • Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say. . . .

  • Oh, be careful, little hands, what you do. . . .

  • Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go. . . .

Although this is a great song when you are trying to get children to be obedient to their parents. Does it have another truth or warning God is trying to give us? This song is relates to many verses in the Bible: Ephesians 5:15–21, Proverbs 4:11-19; 4:24-27, and many others. With all the chemicals we are surrounded by good or bad; should we be more careful about what we are exposing ourselves too.

I have made many changes to my care of patients and my household since my research began. Before I dug deep into products and how they could potentially harm our bodies over time; I was under the impression “If it was really that bad, it wouldn’t be at the grocery store.” The reality is, companies (not all) are looking out for themselves and trying to make a profit even if it is at our expense.  I decided to make a change, one thing at a time because sometimes it is changing that one, which makes all the difference.

Information is only the first step, now it’s time to take action.
