Staying Calm Amongst Chaos

img_8916

No two days are ever the same. If your life is anything like mine it is always changing. I am known for wearing many hats some include working as an RN, going to school to complete my MSN, being a wife, mom, are just some of my many roles. My mind is always going a mile a minute, sometimes I feel like my mind and my body are in two different places. When it comes to staying sane and managing everything I owe it all to God, my calendar, my family, and my oils. I am sure trying to maintain a healthy diet plays a part too but that is a different conversation.

I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a control freak or a neat freak, but I do like things a certain way and things put back where they belong. I am sure most people are the same way. Although I am involved in many tasks, I do tend to focus on one thing at a time. I strive to live and be a part of each moment, no matter how busy I get. Life is too short to live in constant worry. When worry tries to overcome me I think of the Bible verses which say, “Don’t be anxious about anything…” and “All things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” I do believe this to be true and try to remind myself of that in all situations.

I know you are wondering, “What about the oils? How do they come into play?” I have developed a routine I try to stick to devotedly.  After waking up I usually take a few moments to breathe and meditate before getting up this is my way of checking in with myself (sometimes I go back to sleep), then  I apply oils to my skin, add a couple drops to my morning coffee, tea, or water, apply oils to my diffuser, and often apply drops throughout the day. I use oils throughout the day and some days more than others.  The oils I put in my lotion range from:

  • Frankincense

  • Peppermint

  • Balance

  • Australian Blue

  • Whisper

  • Abundance

  • Orange

  • Eucalyptus

  • Valor

I believe the list could go on. It depends on what I am feeling when I take a moment to check in with myself and what I reach for.

Groggy mornings…

If I feel like I need an extra kick to wake up, I find adding peppermint and orange to my face wash. This gives my face a crisp, minty, orange blossom feeling which seems to brighten up my morning.

Before work…Frankincense and Valor, are my usual go to’s.  This helps me feel grounded and empowered. And it helps calm my patients, who are usually surprised by this feeling. Some have even asked what I am wearing.

Hectic days…Everyone has hectic days from time to time; when the world seems like it is caving in on all sides. When this happens I mix Balance, Australian Blue, Whisper, and Orange (sometimes some Dragon Time) to help balance my emotions. This along with a prayer helps me make it through.

Restless nights… The nights when my mind is going a mile a minute or I know I need to fall into a deep asleep quickly, Lavender and Vetiver are my go-to oils. Lavender, I usually put in the diffuser mixed with another scent to help me sleep. (The other scent depends on the year if I feel like I am at risk for getting sick, or stuffy. Sometimes I add Thieves or Eucalyptus.)I apply one drop of Vetiver to my wrist and back of ears; that is enough to send me into a deep slumber when all else fails.

I must say there really is no need for perfume anymore since the oils. The earth has wonderful scents that provide you with more than just a smell but also give you a health benefit. Why settle for just a smell when you can have both. I love it!! The feeling is amazing, the reaction I get from people around me is also wonderful.

Self-care is important, I hope essential oils are able to aid you in your care just as they have added me.
