Indulge Your Skin: The Healing Magic of Body Butters

What do you put on your skin to keep it hydrated/well?… Lotion, oil, nothing… Have you looked at the ingredients list of what you are using? Body Butters are hidden gems that are often overlooked, They can be made at home, and there isn’t just one recipe. They are usually rich in texture and have profound moisturizing properties. Body Butter is also my often go-to remedy for dry, damaged, or sensitive skin. They are amazing at keeping the skin well and are often found throughout my home in various jars, scents, and colors. Among the plethora of natural ingredients used in these soothing concoctions, Kokum, Mango, Cocoa, and Shea butters are royalty. These emollients not only lavish your skin with love but also contribute to its healing and rejuvenation.
I wanted to shed some light on their healing properties individually so you can imagine what they can do together.

Kokum Butter: Kokum Butter is a butter I discovered by chance. I was shopping for herbs for the home and picked it up, and researched it. After adding it to my body butter, I fell in love. The Forgotten Marvel Kokum butter is a lesser-known but mighty emollient, heralded for its ability to regenerate skin cells and reduce degeneration of skin cells. Kokum butter is light on the skin, so it should clog pores. It is widely used on the skin, lips, feet, scalp, and in hair and is known for its excellent healing properties for dry and damaged skin. It’s a fantastic source of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E. This makes it a potent ingredient for battling dry, cracked skin and promoting elasticity and flexibility. I noticed a difference in my skin after adding it to my body butter and it became a must-have ingredient.

Mango Butter: My family loves the sun. To aid with protecting our skin, I began mixing Mango Butter into my mix. This Tropical Treasure Mango butter, extracted from the kernels of the mango fruit, is a soft, creamy butter that has a mild scent making it perfect for those with sensitive noses. It does not have a strong mango smell, even though I love the smell of mangoes. Its emollient properties are outstanding for softening and smoothing the skin. Rich in vitamins A and E, it aids in the healing of dry, rough skin while providing a protective barrier to retain moisture. Because of these properties, Mango butter is known for encouraging the skin to produce new, healthy skin cells, improving the skin’s texture and elasticity, and protecting the skin against damage caused by UV radiation. It is for these reasons Mango Butter was added to my base recipe for body butter.

Cocoa Butter: Cocoa Butter has been used in my family for generations. The Chocolate Charm of Cocoa Butter has a velvety texture and the sweet aroma of cocoa butter are irresistible, but it’s the skin-loving benefits that are the real showstopper. Known for its hydrating and healing properties, and scar and stretchmark fading capabilities, cocoa butter is full of natural antioxidants and fatty acids, which are crucial for improving skin elasticity and providing a barrier to hold in moisture. I believe my own mother began using this on my skin as a baby. This was a part of my original recipe for boddy butter and will forever stay.

Shea Butter: Shea Butter is another butter my family used for generations. As a child, I thought it was the same as cocoa butter. With growth and knowledge, I have found Shea butter to be The African Gold Shea butter, as it is often referred to as ‘African Gold,’ is revered for its rich concentration of fatty acids and natural vitamins. It’s fantastic for dry skin and can help to reduce inflammation, making it a choice ingredient for those with sensitive or irritated skin, such as eczema. Its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties help to nourish the skin deeply, promoting a smooth, soft complexion; while also decreasing inflammation.

When these four powerful butters unite in a single jar of body butter, your skin gets a healing, moisturizing, and rejuvenating treatment like no other. Incorporating a body butter enriched with Kokum, Mango, Cocoa, and Shea butter into your daily skincare routine can be a game-changer. Typically Body butters can be made at home by Purchasing the raw form (often comes in their brick form or rock-looking butter blocks); Melting the butters together; Cooling it in the fridge till it is softly hardened; Mixing it with a hand mixer; and finally placing it is a storage container.
