Troubles, Struggles, and Hard Times

One of the best things about life is it is always changing. Seasons come and go. This can also be what makes life most stressful especially when everything is going well. It can be difficult trying to stay balanced in an unbalanced world but; it can be done.
In-between being a new wife to a blended family, working at various places, going to school, being a mom, volunteering at various locations, and of course being pulled in all of life’s many directions… while trying to do the things I love; I sometimes wonder how I am sane. I don’t know how I keep my head on straight sometimes without a great support system, my calendar, and, essential oils.

Having a solid foundation is essential to balance. In my times of troubles and emotional turmoil, I stand on the Word of God and trust Him. Although this does not create a magic fix for my problem, it does give me a peace and opens my eyes to what is around me. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:5 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” For me this comes in many different forms, strength when I feel most vulnerable, friends when I feel like crying, support when I see no way out, and above all else love when there seems to be no end.
Having people who understand you and give you solid Godly feedback when you need it most, is very valuable. Friends who contribute to your pity party and fuel to your fire are probably not the people you want to keep close by. Some people are seasonal and come to you just for a purpose. Just think of how you feel when you express concerns or vent to each group, even if you are in the right. Do you leave feeling the same: empower, free, grounded or sad, unsettled, ready to fight?
Living balanced has nothing to do with always being right, proving someone else wrong, and does not mean you will always feel like you are on cloud nine. It is a different feeling that is changing with circumstance with one constant feeling… peace. To me that is.
OILS…

Essential oils have become a major part of my life. I use my essential oils to help me sleep but I also use them too, help me focus while studying, pre and post workout, keep from getting sick if I actually get sick, cramps, nausea, acne, cook, clean… The list goes on, needless to say, I have incorporated them into every aspect of my life.
But not just for the physical reasons; I also incorporate oils to help me stay grounded. Lemon, orange, peppermint, frankincense, sage, white angelica… My choice of which oils to use depends on what I am feeling at the time. Sometimes I am just drawn to a bottle and it helps me for that day.
I usually drop some frankincense on my head every day (sometimes multiple times). In the morning I place a drop of an oil (lemon, orange, eucalyptus, peppermint… depending on what I feel) on my wrists and a different one sometimes behind my ears. I also have several roll-ons filled with different blends which relate to how I am feeling that day or week and roll them on my forearms throughout the day.
I also diffuse different scents around my home depending on the vibe of the house.
SCIENCE WITH OILS…

Lemmon, orange, basil, and lavender essential oils have a compound called linalool (these are just some of the oils). Linalool is often used to help relieve stress, ease symptoms of depression, improve mood, and in some cases promote sleep. According to the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine (2015), essential oils have specific characters which can penetrate our tissues in order to stimulate properties which resemble the hormones in our bodies. For example, when smelling an essential oil (aromatherapy) a cascade of complex chemical reactions which actually send signals to the limbic and hypothalamus which then causes the brain to release neuro messengers (serotonin, endorphin, noradrenalin) which can have a calming effect on the body.

My thought…I believe it is amazing to know the materials to help us care for ourselves no matter what we are feeling can be found in the earth for us to maintain balance. We just need to pay more attention and be proactive in maintaining our own wellbeing. Become more self-aware of our own feelings. Too many time we allow our emotions (in this case) to become so off balance that we then must correct them with medication. What the everyday self-care look like? I believe depending on the day or person it will look different.
Self-care although overlooked with our go-go-go mentality is very important. I remind myself often although I am a busy woman, it is important to care for myself. Although I have not been able to fit into my schedule/ finances to have a message once a month; I have taken the time to listen to my body and care for what it requires. Without doing so I can not care for others or complete my purpose. The more I use my oils, the more in touch with them I feel. I encourage you to use your oils daily and see where your journey takes you.
I hope essential oils are able to help you and your emotional health journey.
