Traveling With Oils

img_8321

Traveling can be a beautiful, adventurous, and sometimes a learning experience. Bringing essential oils on the trip can aid in events which pop up unexpectantly. When away from home things pop up which can be out of the ordinary. Experiencing difficulty sleeping, stomach issues, or even allergies are some of the unexpected events which can occur. On my recent travels to Oregon, I was happy to have some oils with me- Frankincense, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Clove, and Peppermint. While exploring the trails we encountered many uses for them.

I recently went to Oregon for a conference and a family trip. I was happy to have my

essential oils on hand. During our exploration into the wild forest, we witnessed the beauty of nature along with some enmities of the city. The greenery surrounding the town was gorgeous and serene. Hiking along the trails and feeling the surrounding nature felt grounding and inspirational. Smelling the crisp scent of the bark of the trees and the smell of the leaves and surrounding flowers gave us a calming sensation. The scent of coolness vs. the scent of warmth which came when the sun broke through in different areas of our hike; was rejuvenating. We ended up hiking to a waterfall; feeling the energy from the water crashing down felt cleansing and peaceful.

During our trip, I mixed Eucalyptus in our lotion to help keep insects at bay, since it acts as an insect repellent. This was something I did once every day for myself and my family. During one of our hiking adventures, I did get bit once toward the end of the evening and my son once after one of our long day adventures. To my son’s bite, I applied only a drop of clove to numb the area; he didn’t even notice it after. I later then applied a drop of lavender and frankincense to help it heal and pretty much disappear. Eucalyptus was all I applied to mine which I never felt again.

Unexpected events can occur which can cause things to not go as planned which can cause stress. Eucalyptus and peppermint are also two oils I use for headaches. One drop, which I apply to both temples and sometimes behind the ears, can aid in relieving headaches caused by stress and even allergies. I never leave home without them because depending on the trigger one will usually work better than the other.

Aside from bug bites and headaches. Essential oils can be used for a wide variety of things:

    • sunburns or skin irritations

You can even take them on the airplane, the limit is 3 oz. each and up to 70 oz. makes taking your favorite oils easy to carry on any travel experience. I have never actually traveled with a diffuser, but I always wish it was there when I am away.
