Yes of course we want to be safe when we are using Essential Oils. But you might be thinking, “What can I use them for?”

Here are some of the ways you can use essential oils.

  • Headaches

  • Relieve stress

  • Improving sleep

  • Skin irritations

  • Moisturizer

  • Help with digestion

  • Help reduce cholesterol

  • Cleaning products for home

  • Clean the air

  • Sore throat

  • Air freshener/deodorizer

The list could go on…. A shorter list would be what can you not use them for (remember don’t put them in your ear, nose, or eyes). Adding essential oils to your products not only gives your product a fresh aroma but also adds the healing properties as well.

Diffusing and Freshening the Home… Adding essential oils to a diffuser is a great way to clear/ clean the air, set/ change the mood, or just freshen up the home. Each oil has a different healing property and some oils can even have an effect on the electrical frequency of our brains

Having a home that smells clean is important to many home owners. Adding a couple drops of tea tree oil, lemon grass, lemon, or other citrus oils in the diffuser can help give your home that just clean feeling and smell. These oils are also nice to have on when having a party, set the mood.

Getting a goodnight sleep is important for staying balanced and calming down energized kids is important for staying sane. Adding lavender to the diffuser can help relax, relieve sleep, and even help you enter stage 1 of sleep. Cypress, Sandalwood, lavender, vetiver, and frankincense are some of the many oils you can use to set the mood.

Stressors can effect and are apart of our daily lives. Although oils are not a “magical” cure to take away all feelings of stress and hurt. The research behind essential oils and aroma therapy can help you cope and relax while feeling stressed. This helps bring down cortisol levels in the body. Ever had a smell remind you of something, this is how aroma therapy works the essential oils also add a therapeutic component.

Creating spray bottles… Adding a couple drops of eucalyptus oil to a spray bottle with fractionated coconut oil can help deodorize couches, cushions, shoes, and rooms You can also add 1/2 vinegar with 1/2 water 10 drops of lemon essential oil and you now have a home-made surface cleaner, with therapeutic properties.

Creating Blends to Apply Topically… Creating your own blends with a mix of different oils and a carrier oil will not only help your oils last longer but will also give you mixes on the go when you need them. I have created the following blends (so far): an energizer blend to help me working night shift, one for sleeping, a focus blend for my son and husband, congestion blend, one for fighting a cold (You can purchase empty roll on and dropper bottles to create your own blends for every occasion. I add a mix of almond oil, with a couple drops of vitamin E, and jojoba oil with different drops of essential oils. You can use different carrier oils, if you decide to use coconut oil I suggest using fractionated coconut so it doesn’t revert back to being solid- but you can always just store it differently.

  • You can apply your blend (depending on the intended use of the blend): over your stomach ( soles of the feet, wrists, forearms, behind the ears, behind the neck, throat (blend for sore throats), or even the chest (Blend for congestion or chest cold).

Lotions…You can also make your own lotion by melting coconut oil and coco butter together, letting it harden in the fridge, blend with a mixer till fluffy, and then adding one or more essential oils. This creates a healthy moisturizer for your skin that has the healing properties of the oil as well. (You can also add essential oils to your lotions and face cream for added benefits.

Whats in my Tea… So as mentioned earlier you can take some essential oils internally. Please make sure you are using a therapeutic grade essential oil and follow your companies instructions regarding use. Not all oils are created equal. On a daily basis I add one drop of lemon oil to my 40ox water jug to help with my digestion and keep myself cleansed. On days I am working out I also add one drop of peppermint oil to aid in opening up my air way. When I have a sore throat I add 1 drop of clove or thieves oil (to my tea with a half a teaspoon of honey to help coat/ numb my throat. I also add 2 drops to my 40oz water to help my throat stay coated throughout the day. There are different oils you can use to help with upset stomachs or with breathing if feeling congested. Some people also make capsules with a carrier oil and essential oil to take either on a daily basis or when fighting a cold (

There is an oil for everything. Using oils can change the way your feel. Do be afraid to mix and match. I think the hardest part is remembering the recipes for the blends you create and love. Research the benefits of the oil you intend to use and a couple things to watch out for By using them you will learn when to reach for certain oils depending on what your body is telling you. Wellness in a journey and learning to listen to what your body needs will help you stay balanced. Take the first step and lets continue this journey together.
